911 For Kids

What should we teach our children about calling 9-1-1?

Most children know to dial 9-1-1 in an emergency, but they don't know other important information, such as their address or parents work numbers. Here is some of the most important information children should know about calling 9-1-1.

Teach your children:
  • Their full name, their parents names, and their home address and phone number
  • The name of your employer and phone number
  • How to hold the phone properly so that they can speak clearly to the dispatcher
  • What an emergency is and when to call 9-1-1
  • Not to be afraid to call 9-1-1 if there is an emergency
  • They have permission to call 9-1-1 before calling a parent at work, during an emergency (Because calling a parent first, can waste valuable time)
  • And last....Teach your children it is against the law to call 9-1-1 as a joke or prank
